our people

Pete has had the pivilege of living in Cronulla for most of his life.
The ocean influences and inspires both his work and play. Originally a keen surfer and sail boarder with his leisure time revolving around our Shire beaches, then with young family in tow he ventured firstly into dinghy sailing and then for the past two decades he has enjoyed the pleasure and pain of offshore yacht racing with his son and dedicated crew.

Our only child Drew studied Naval Achitecture at uNSW, and was employed by dynamic local Naval Architect firm One2three Naval Architects designing lightweight, fast and efficient commercial powered vessels, work boats, and racing sailing yacht optimisation on the world stage.

Drew recently switched to full time employment at his online business Wet Tech Rigging supplying custom built running rigging, splicing, cordage and hardware solutions to the racing dinghy, offshore yacht racing fraternity, and specialist industrial applications.

Pete VAN RYN

Pete has about 45 years experience as a building design professional.

Having completed the Structural Engineering Certificate at Sydney Technical College, Pete registered his first business and commenced freelance design in 1978 and commenced full time design practice in 1983.

Shortly after the inception of the Building Designers Association of New South Wales in 1992, Pete was awarded Full Member status. Membership categories are based on qualifications, full time self-employment record and review of a selection of built works. To maintain Full Member status the BDAA member must document accrual of regulated professional development (PD) points each and every year.
Audited by Building Consultants Accreditation Pty. Ltd, a new system of state wide competency standards and design accreditation was introduced in 2003. Pete then upgraded to Chartered Member status, and became one of the first members to qualify for the highest Unrestricted Accreditation grade (now called 'Open' grade).
Over the years Pete has served on a variety of BDAA:Sydney Chapter committees and several BDAA:NSW Chapter committees as author and joint convenor of both state and national conferences. Very regularly over the past decade Pete has enjoyed the honour of participating as a member of the judging panel for the prestigious BDAA National Design Awards. To recognise his long term service to the association, Pete was awarded BDAA Fellow Member status in 2012.

Based in Cronulla NSW, the majority of Pete's designs are built in the Sutherland Shire. Although operating a small design practice, Pete's scope of charter is broad, encompassing residential, multi-residential, industrial and commercial assignments.

In recent years, succumbed by the opportunities offered by computer design, Pete has become increasingly passionate about combining his design knowledge and 3D modelling skills to optimise the built environment with his Clients.
